The crowds are starting to thin, and we have the beach mostly to ourselves today. More room for Penelope to run free and catch the ball, her favorite pastime. She catches them short. She catches them long. And in her proudest moments, she catches them high, flying up into the sky getting those hind legs off the ground.
She catches them AIRBORNE.
I wish you could see her trot back, her head held high, flaunting, saying, look at me, did you see what I just did? She knows it was special as she drops the ball at our feet, smiles and looks up hoping to get a treat for that performance.
Here’s the thing. Penelope is not a small dog. She often gets mistaken as a male because of her “girth.” She is also not exactly young, 7 ½ years old. None of that matters to her. She doesn’t think twice about her WEIGHT or her AGE. All she thinks about is flying, her hair in the wind, retrieving that ball and getting rewarded.
She doesn’t stop. She doesn’t give up. She pants and asks for more. She doesn’t realize she maybe can’t quite catch as many runs as she used too. That she needs to take a few more breaks.
As I watch her, it occurrs to me how I might limit myself based on my age and what I think I can do versus what I really want to do, regardless. I realize how much I criticize myself for being those oh-so-many pounds overweight like I can’t quite present in the world as the woman I want to be.
What if I were more like Penelope, who has no limitations of the mind and only follows her DESIRES? What if I didn’t give up?
What if I got AIRBORNE?
What if I allowed myself to be propelled by the winds beneath me?
I can only imagine how I would SOAR! Let’s do this! Are you ready to soar with me??
If you want to be more like Penelope and soar, pop a YES in the comments!!
Even better, tell us what you will do next.
